Um Grenzen wieder durchlässig zu machen, hat Susanne Pittroff 28 überwiegend polnische KünstlerInnen eingeladen, an einem gemeinsamen Kunstprojekt teilzunehmen. Ziel war der Austausch von Sicht- und Lebensweisen während der aktuellen Kontaktbeschränkungen, über die Grenze hinweg.
Als Kontaktmedium diente ein fabrikneues Baumwolltuch im Format 1,5 x 2 Meter. Ein weißes Tuch, in der Hotellerie als Tisch- oder Bettwäsche genutzt, geht stellvertretend auf Reisen. Es wurde auf dem Postweg an die KünstlerInnen in Berlin und Polen geschickt, mit der Idee, dieses Laken in den Alltag zu integrieren, es entweder einfach zu benutzen und Spuren des Umfeldes aufzufangen oder in einen künstlerischen Prozess einzubinden.
Die individuelle Behandlung wurde von den KünstlerInnen gefilmt oder fotografisch festgehalten. Einige Tücher kamen scheinbar unverändert zurück, sie dienten beispielsweise als Requisite für eine Handlung. Andere wurden der Natur ausgesetzt und zeigten sichtbare Spuren. Einige nutzten das Tuch auch als Bildträger.
Die Tücher und die filmischen Beiträge werden am 17.12.2021 in einer Ausstellung in der neuen Isarphilharmonie in München präsentiert.
Das haptisch erfassbare Medium „Stoff“ liefert so auf vielfältige Weise Einblicke in Denk- und Lebensweisen, manchmal überraschend intim. Die zurückgesandten Beiträge sind – höchst individuell. Gemeinsam ist ihnen jedoch eine philosophische Seinsbetrachtung von Nähe und Distanz.
Zur Ausstellung in der Isarphilharmonie (im Chorprobenraum) erscheint im icon, Hubert Kretschmer Verlag das gleichnamige Buch mit ausführlicher Dokumentation des Projektes und mit Textbeiträgen von Prof. Marta Smolińska, Dr. Patrycja Cembrzyńska und Mareike Schwarz.

Tuchfühlung – stay in touch

The Corona lockdown of April 2020 and the resulting border closures with neighbouring countries came completely unexpected. All of a sudden, cross-national cultural exchange could no longer take place.
In order to re-open borders, Susanne Pittroff invited 28 mostly Polish artists to take part in a joint art project. The aim was to exchange perspectives and ways of life across borders during the current contact restrictions.
A brand-new cotton cloth measuring 1.5×2 meters served as the contact medium. A white cloth, used in the hotel industry as a table or bed linen, became a substitute and went traveling instead. It was sent by post to the artists based in Berlin and Poland with the idea of integrating the sheet into everyday life, either by simply using it, thereby capturing any traces of the environment, or by integrating it into artistic processes.
The individual treatment was filmed or photographed by the artists. Some cloths were returned seemingly unchanged; for example, they were used as a prop for an act. Others were exposed to nature and showed visible traces. Some artists also used the cloth as an image carrier.
The cloths and the filmic contributions will be displayed at the new Gasteig HP8 in Munich on 17.12.2021
The contact medium “fabric” provides insights into ways of thought and living in various forms, sometimes also surprisingly intimate. The returned contributions are – highly individual. What they have in common, however, is a philosophical consideration of closeness and distance.
Exhibition and Book
For the exhibition a book of the same name including a detailed documentation of the project and text contributions by Prof. Marta Smolińska, Dr. Patrycja Cembrzyńska and Mareike Schwarz will be published by the Hubert Kretschmer Verlag.
